Nanny needs your help.
How can she make me stop scratching the furniture?
If I don’t get my treats…I scratched her furniture.
Am I a bad kitty?
I know how to get what I want.
You can get sprays to spray on the furniture that is supposed to stop us scratching. But mum hasn’t had a lot of success with them.
You can get cat nip spray to spray on placed you are allowed to scracth. Or you can be mean like mum and spray us with water!
Our mom puts our scratching post in front of the place on the couch where we like to scratch. So we will scratch the post instead of the couch. There is also this stuff called sticky paws. It’s like double sided tape. It’s supposed to be a good deterrent.
We do both…some feliway spray on the no-no places and scratching posts near by. So far so good!
The scratching post in the area of the place where we scratch works for us. If she’s there, and we’re about to scratch somewhere we’re not supposed to, she just picks up the spray water bottle (she used that to teach us as kittens) and we know she means business!
Mmm that kitty knows how to get what he wants!
Mom also has this problem with me ..
The problem is, by giving you treats when you scratch the furniture, your Nan is training and rewarding you for scratching. Maybe your nan should give you treats when you scratch the post, and a loud NO! to make you jump and no treats when you scratch the furniture…?
My Mommeh keeps my nails trimmed pretty short, but even so, I never scratch on anything except my favorite scratching post which I love, love, love!
Well, this is a pickle! maybe put foil on the areas you scratch, sticky tape? Maybe you just need more treats and stinky goodness.
